It’s Friday and we’re ready to shake off the working week and have some fun this weekend. Getting ready for the big night out is just as fun as the event itself, but what’s a girl to do when her hair falls flat?

There are so many tips, tricks and hacks out there to add more body and volume to your hair, but we’ve narrowed it down to three that really work.

The traditional bouncy blow dry is a favourite at Envy HQ and one we’ve blogged about before (see here), a good blow-dry can transform hair from limp and lifeless to full of body and life. If you struggle to maintain lift at the root when you style your hair, try spritzing our Big Hair Root Volumiser onto towel dried roots and blow dry as normal.

Channel your inner Victoria Secret model with big, bouncy loose waves - adding a curl to your hair is the easiest way to cheat voluptuous body. Invest in a good curling wand; a large tong will create timeless, loose beachy waves, whilst a tapered tong will create a tighter, corkscrew curl. Break up curls with your fingers to create texture and body.

Backcombing hair with a teasing brush is another way to achieve volume at the roots, especially on finer hair. We wouldn’t recommend this as an everyday solution, as if done wrong it can lead to split ends, but for special occasions it can take the hard work out of styling. Brush through hair and beginning at the crown, take a 1.5-2inch section and with a teasing brush gently but firmly push the hair back towards the scalp in one fluid motion. Continue sectioning and back combing until you have your desired shape and then smooth out the section covering the backcombing - no one likes the birds nest look!
